A captivating and finely worked 19th-century Black Forest trinket box in dark walnut, small in scale but exceptional in ambition. The piece is crowned by a boldly carved pheasant finial — wings spread, tail fanned, perched on a foliate nest atop the shaped lid — a tour de force of the carver's art and one of the most expressive bird subjects in the Black Forest tradition.
